We are loving the new Carrera #DRIVEYOURSTORY campaign, as we count down the final weeks of winter!
Founded in 1956, Carrera was inspired by ‘La Carrera Pan-Americana’, an auto race stretching 3,500kms on open roads in Mexico throughout the 1950s. Known as The Race Across America, it is still considered the most dangerous motor sport race in history due to its incredible distance, varied terrain, and no airbags, seatbelts or even windshield wipers!
The daring characteristics of the La Carrera Pan-Americana are the inspiration behind Carrera’s racing spirit and is famously represented in the frame design – look closely at the sunglasses and you’ll find a version of the racing flag featured on the frame. It may be a bold statement along the temple like on the GRAND PRIX 2, or subtly added on the 172/N/S for a touch of red and white.

CARRERA COOL
Carrera’s racing heritage is not the only claim to fame – the brand has constantly made tracks in the eyewear industry.
- Carrera was one of the first brands to do collab collections – from Porsche to Supreme they are the kings of cool!
- Carrera was the first to put their logo in the centre of the frame, a signature detail which defines the brand alongside the racing stripes, and ensures you stand out from the crowd
- Al Pacino famously wore Carrera in the movie, Scarface (1983) and ever since they’ve been featured in countless films in need of that iconic look, including War Dogs, Casino, Rush, Zoolander and not to mention a dodgy looking James Franco in Springbreakers!
- Lady Gaga slayed in Carrera for her Bad Romance music vid, while Dizzee Rascal, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys are all big fans too!
