Addicted to Online Shopping?

Most of you know that we are in the process of setting up our Web Site/online store. Obviously we want it to be the best site to visit and buy from, so there is so much to consider.

I’d love to know where you shop online (for anything) and why you love them. What makes them awesome to shop at?! or any tips we need to avoid. Any feedback is much appreciated!

-I’ve had so many customers in trying on our Quay sunglasses and they’ve commented saying that they’ve looked at their online store and that it’s hard looking at sunnies online as they don’t know if they’re going to suit or fit them until they physically get them. Specsavers have attempted to overcome this by adding a feature that allows you to use either the generic face they provide, or the ability for the customer to upload their own photo, and select the frames to see what they would look like on the face.
– If the site gives the option to click a pair of sunglasses and it loads to a new page that gives the customer the option to see muliple sides of the frames, it could be a good idea to have a section of the page, maybe the bottom, showing similar styles (any brands) to the style they have just selected.
– Give details other than just price, such as what the product is made of, where it’s made, the warranty timeframe, what brand its from, the sizing details (length of lenses and arm length), if it’s polarised/mirrored/oleophobic/photochromatic ect, what lens category it is, the colouring details of the lens and frames ect. Pretty much as much details as possible that you would otherwise expect us Styler’s to know and pass onto the customer.

I’m full of ideas and could go on forever!

My fav shopping website is Tobi. Always has good deals and great quality. Also shipping is easy and fast.

I have to say in terms of Sunglass company websites Maui Jims is very nice! https://nz.mauijim.com – Everything about it is a true representation of the brand and what they are trying to sell which is more than their product, they’re selling their service, their quality, the Hawaiian morals/spirit … they are Maui!!

Less is definitely more; people like it when things have been spelled out for them; clean, sharp, fun etc I personally love it when there are videos of people in product as you can see how it preforms, looks and moves.

Its nice to also have the option to ‘Shop our Instagram’ and adding your social media sites on the page as most people know about product/brands via social media; it also makes you feel like you’re part of a movement, you are apart of the brand and its success.

I 100% agree that sunglasses are absolutely you want to try before you buy so having a description of different face shapes people can then identify what shape they have they can then shop by face shape.

It would be amazing for people to be upload a picture of their face and somehow have the glasses on top of their face so its like you’re trying them on from a comp screen, also how many websites do we know that do that? not many! so we would be unique and down with it ahaha.

I only shop at asos because they offer free shipping, have beautiful models wearing their merchanise and just have so so so many products. They also have the option of looking at how customers have styled their merchandise through instagram and also if celebrities have similar styles you are able to see it on the website.

Im so excited for us to be able to sell online!!

This is exciting, cant wait for it to happen.

I’ve worked a bit in online shopping for my previous job at Northbeach and from all the feedback we used to get from online customers was always on going but majority of the feedback was the same, obviously good and bad but the main areas to make sure that are well executed will be the way how the site is presented and how user friendly it is because we have customers all ages etc that shop online and most of them wouldn’t really know what to do online in terms of shopping, so i guess to make sure its 100% user friendly but at the same time to make the site fun and exciting too. Another good thing is to make sure that terms and conditions are understandable in terms of making a purchase online and procedures of returns/exchanges/refunds. Shipping is also a massive thing too, maybe free shipping of a purchase over a certain amount spent – nationwide.

I guess the hardest part would be getting customers to purchase sunglasses online without them being able to try on, so maybe create some visuals on certain faces/shapes/colours etc on the site for them to see what it could potentially look on them. Northbeach also had some really cool prizes monthly for customers who would sign up online to join the vip data base so maybe thats something could look into as well?(it brought in a lot of customers to sign up). I think it would be great to have an online chat for help as well for customers that need any questions answered. Probably good to have a rundown on each brand and sunglass with detailing (features/benefits) too.

Just me 2 cents lol, hopefully it helps 🙂

YAY – This is so exciting.
Personally, I rarely shop on sites where there is no app, or at least “mobile site” available. I find there is to much too look at on a lot on websites and end up getting distracted HAH!
I think a page educational page would be a must, where the different colours and technologies are explained. A filter-style slide show of sorts would be ideal to show the different contrasts you get from different tinted lenses. The same for a polarized lense vs. non-polarized. Detailed descriptions of what all the different materials available are, and their pro’s. A Care and Protection tips page would provide all the do’s and dont’s to keep the sunnie’s in good nick.
A “face shapes” page would also be beneficial when it comes to choosing the ideal frame shape to suit the face. (Listen to me, “Too much info can be distracting” and then…. lol).
Personalized filters such as “I have a…’round face’ or ‘square face'” “I am looking for a ‘casual style’ or ”sports style'” would also be very helpful. Being able to choose a style online and have it automatically turn into a front camera filters (like snapchat) would be the ultimate! Dreams are free though right?! Hahaha!
I like to be able to see ALL the colours available on one listing. EG. If I saw some black boots I like, but wanted tan, I would like to be able find them on the same listing. Its also annoying when you find something only to get to check out before being told your size is out of stock!
I am definitely more inclined to repurchase from a online store if it arrives on time and is well packaged, even better if its pretty packaging! I get a lot of my high end make-up off MYM.co.nz. They always text me a really sweet text when my package is on its way, with the tracking number and a huge thank-you. I always appreciate that!

AWESOME! I cant get enough of online shopping!
Will also be really good for our custys to see all of our brands/range no matter where they live 🙂
An option I appreciate with online apps especially, is being able to create an account with your Facebook (Log in with Facebook) saves having to remember another username and password!
Also, having an option to save/ add to wishlist is so handy!! Always adding to my ASOS saved items and coming back to purchase when I have the money to spend.

SO pumped to see how this turns out!

  Wish List! Yes agree they are very useful/addictive! I’ve never come across the log in by face book option…or maybe I have…? Sounds goo, I’ll look out for it now. My face book friends won’t be able to see what I’ve bought will they!!!??

    No they can’t see what you’ve bought, all it does (i think) is access your login information and transfers it across to their website so you don’t even need to bother putting all your details in to sign up. It will automatically log you in with your facebook details. Such a good Idea!

I love that we are on the works to getting an online store! We need it, and i think this is such a good idea for our company to expand and develop 🙂 Wooohoo!

I personally don’t do to much buying when it comes to online shopping, i guess i am old fashion like that 😛 I prefer to go into the store and physically try it on. However in saying that i do find myself scrolling through A LOT of online clothing stores, and fashion Instagram’s – I am OBSESSED with fashion Instagram’s and general online Instagram sites – whether it be food, clothes or boutique stores – i love seeing the style of their sites 🙂 It keeps me up to date with different fashion and what’s on trend in that particular store.

So i totally agree with what everyone has said esepcially lambton’s comment about, having an option to ‘try’ on the sunglasses to your face shape – as for someone who doesn’t shop online often this would definitely be a feature i would use!

Also having the site simple and user friendly is a must! Especially having it user friendly with your smartphone – as who doesn’t use their smart phone? And i personally hate going on to a online site on my phone where the site completely changed once you use your smart phone – i end up just leaving the site straight away because i can not stand it 😛

All in all i think everything has already been said and i love everyone’s ideas!! Can not wait to see it up and running! (But we definitely NEED a Instagram page with the latest styles, something funky and fashion that makes people want to have a scroll through and then tap on to the link to our website!) 😛

So cool that you’re reaching out to us for our thoughts Lisa!
I agree with the others in the sense that we need to set Sunglass Style a part from our competition. The ideas already suggested are super awesome especially the try before you buy idea, making it easy for customers to see what the sunglasses look like on their face or a face shape like their own.
I also like the idea of free shipping over a certain price point, this not only is an advantage for the customer but also an incentive to spend more or get friends to buy product at the same time and get the shipping free. that’s something I will often try and do if you can get free shipping, I will see if any of my friends also want something off the same website.
I also think your website needs to be backed up with social media sites, such as Facebook and Instagram, this not only allows you to grow the brand and promote product but to also show customers new product, flash sales, and just also what the product looks like on.
This also allows you to create that one on one relationship with online customers as you can monitor what they ask for in comments, answer any questions they have and just make the online customers feel like they can get that service online as well, this can be through a pop up chat box, I find this handy if I have any questions I want answered straight away, or any problems with payment, V.I.P promotions, online sales codes etc.
a lot of websites also have a pop up V.I.P sign up that comes up when entering the site, this could be a good idea to get online customers on board with that, but somehow connecting it to stores as well, it could also be a good idea to give them a bit more incentive, such as loyalty points that converts into dollars to spend after they have spent a certain amount, for example, you get one point per $10 you spend and can’t redeem until around 50 or 100 points, and maybe its sent out as voucher or only redeemable online etc. Just something that keeps our customers loyal to us and spending on the site. Mecca does this well with the beauty loop rewards, once you spend over $400 in store you reach beauty level 1 and receive a beauty loop box. its pretty awesome! definitely keeps me spending my money there haha.
definitely have a slide show on the home page of the top styles (gold glass) and featured stock such as Karen Walker Eye Shadows, I’d change this up often just to keep it interesting.

That pretty much sums up my 5 cents, looking forward to seeing it all come together!

Definitely looooveee any kind of free shipping!! I think having measurements for the sunglasses would be a huge plus e.g lens width, lens height, arm length as people can measure them against a pair of sunnies they already own. I love the idea of having a wishlist, something where you can just click a button and be able to keep track of what sunnies you’ve been wanting for ages 😉
Also yes to some kind of loyalty program!! I am way more likely to buy again from somewhere if I can get a reward from it haha

I think having an online store is a great idea! Definitely think that having social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram, like Dest said, would be hugely beneficial!

I personally am working with a company and their social media as a part of one of my courses at university and creating an online community is a great way to gain brand loyalty, have a place that customers can engage not only with the company but also with each other, tag others and share posts (another way to get the brand out there) and create posts that show what the company is up to, what styles we have in, pictures of celebrities and customers wearing our sunglasses (post on both Instagram and Facebook) and have a positive, friendly environment where people will gain positive connotations towards the company.

Facebook and Instagram are also platforms that link to each other so you can post a photo to Instagram that automatically posts to Facebook as well (if you choose). You can also boost your website with your social media accounts and vice versa 🙂 Social media just has to be done right and it will be greatly beneficial! Always reply to customers addressing their name and sign off to show that you’re a person not a robot! Hahah!

Love everyone else’s suggestions! I personally like shopping off of Boohoo.com as they always have sales on!!

Another good idea would be to have the option of seeing what stores have the sunglasses available! So if people want to physically try the glasses on they know what stores to visit 🙂 – Alesha xx

  Thanks Alesha, good idea but not sure how it would work as our levels change to often. We definitely want more people visiting our stores though. We are going to have the return to store option, for anyone that’s not happy with their purchase.
